Labour MPs declare war over sex

Oh dear. It is a day ending in ‘y’ – so of course another Labour backbencher is going to the stake for a mad cause. Mr S has had plenty of fun in recent months covering the antics of Samantha ‘the nibbler’ Niblett, the Derbyshire dilettante whose calls for a ‘summer of sex’ were quickly lampooned as a Karma Sutra kamikaze mission. But now, it seems, one of Niblett’s colleagues is not content to let her have all the fun when it comes to policing Britons’ sexual norms…

Step forward Jessica Asato, the usually-sensible Member for Lowestoft. The new MP has taken it upon herself to defend the government’s new restrictions on pornography. In her bid to clamp down on non-fatal strangulation, Asato has now ended up posting online about British Board of Film Classifications guidelines around ‘choking or gagging during oral sex.’ This has, predictably, led her to engage with an online spat with a sex worker, furious about the new changes. Quelle surprise…

‘All we are doing is bringing our law towards online pornography into parity with what we allow in offline pornography’, sniffed Asato to self-proclaimed ‘femdom mommy’ Jessica Starling . ‘As for harms of oral sex, this is useful to read’, she continued, including a link about its role in throat cancer. Worthy principles, perhaps, but is this really the right role for a Member of Parliament? Asato’s posting has now triggered an avalanche of criticism from both left and right, asking whether oral sex is now to be banned under this government. Hardly a Burnham bounce…

So much for staying out of the boardroom and the bedroom, eh?
