Spare us Macklemore’s smug braying about ‘Free Palestine’

Does Macklemore really want to ‘Save Gaza’ or save his own lame career from the dungheap of history? Yesterday, the self-styled cancelled rapper – he’s bloody noisy for someone who’s been silenced – announced that he’s going on tour. It’s called the ‘Free Palestine’ tour. Of course it is. There’s no speedier shortcut to the moral highground for a has-been half-celeb than on the Gaza bandwagon.

Macklemore became the Palestine movement’s holiest martyr when he was dumped from Ed Sheeran’s US tour after yelping ‘Free Palestine’ at 90,000 Sheeran fans in New Jersey. Ivy League leftists idolise him. He’s the patron saint of the keffiyeh cult. ‘He’s been crucified by the Epstein classes!’, cried every lunatic on the internet. And now he’s milking his secular beatification by taking his Israelphobia on the road.

It will kick off in late October. The first stop is Dublin. Good choice – Ireland has succumbed like a Victorian child with TB to the moral fever of Israel-hate. Brace yourself for a sea of keffiyehs and tricolour balaclavas as every irritant of the Emerald Isle gathers to venerate Macklemore. Then he’ll go to London and Paris, two more cities overrun by muppets and bigots who dream of Israel’s erasure. He’ll get a warm welcome.

Hating Israel is the most high-status if low-IQ opinion there is

Macklemore says his tour will be a screw you to the ‘billionaire class’ that thinks it has the right to ‘decide which voices are allowed on stage and which ones are too dangerous to hear’. He really thinks he’s dangerous, doesn’t he? He really thinks it’s edgy to say ‘Free Palestine’. He genuinely fancies himself as a kind of moral lovechild of Sid Vicious and Yasser Arafat, punkishly saying the unsayable. One doesn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Laugh, I reckon.

Far from ‘dangerous’, Palestinianism is the lifeblood of middle-brow discourse. Hating Israel is the most high-status if low-IQ opinion there is. The falsehood of Israel’s ‘genocide’ is the first commandment of polite society. The really ‘dangerous’ thing these days is to deviate from these barbarous libels. To say it’s not a genocide. To say it’s a just war against Islamofascists who rape and kill Jews for sport. Say that and they’ll destroy you. They’ll call you a ZioNazi.

Just look at what’s happened to Ed Sheeran. He didn’t say any of that – he’s too vanilla to come out swinging for the right of the Jewish state to lay waste to the army of anti-Semites that invaded its territory three years ago. But he did play it cool, saying there’s been ‘suffering’ on ‘both sides’ in this war. And they gunned for him. ‘Say genocide!’, barked the Helter-Skelter freaks of the Gaza cult. His music was dropped by an Irish radio station. People are demanding a full-scale Sheeran boycott. Perhaps Macklemore should invite him on his silenced tour.

The hypocrisy of the keffiyeh mob really is something. These are the same people who holler morning, noon and night for the brutish cancellation of Israeli creatives. Numerous musicians and dance troupes from the Jewish state have been disinvited and blacklisted by the West’s high priests of Palestinianism.

I’ll say this as plainly as I can: if you fight for freedom of speech for people who hate Israel while also conspiring in the ruthless censoring of Israelis, then you’re not fighting for the right to speak at all — you’re fighting for your own nasty, shrivelled ‘right’ to be a bigot. You seek not the liberty to speak but a licence to be prejudiced, a hollowed-out public realm where only those who have guzzled the Kool-Aid of Israelophobia may freely hold forth.

The truly punk thing these days is to be pro-Israel. There’s a reason it took Johnny Rotten, our greatest punk, to cut through the conformist fog of Pally nonsense and say that Hamas are ‘just Jew exterminators’. It is obscene, he said, for comfy Western leftists to call Israel a ‘fascist regime’. You tell ’em, Johnny. Give me the ex-Sex Pistol’s rebellious moral clarity over the conformist moral slop of Macklemore and his acolytes any day of the week. Free Palestine? More like free us from the smug braying of bored rich liberals.
