It’s only taken weeks, but Andy Burnham has finally declared the Green Party’s ‘Zionism is racism’ policy ‘antisemitic’ – and ruled out a post-election pact so long as it remains in place. At PMQs today, our An-deh was pressed on whether he would join forces with the far-left party despite its members waging a campaign of harassment against those who believe Israel has a right to exist.
Tory grandee Harriet Baldwin asked: ‘The leader of the opposition has made it crystal clear about doing deals with other parties. So will the prime minister make it equally clear, following the Green Party’s descent into the most abhorrent antisemitism, that he will rule out cooperating with them.’ Burnham responded:
Can I condemn the motion that passed unequivocally. It is wrong, it is antisemitic, and this side of the House will have nothing to do with it. We will always take the right response when it comes to partnerships with other parties. We cannot support a partnership with a party that holds a position that has recently been adopted.
But Mr S notes that the Prime Minister stopped short of ruling out a deal if the Greens ditch the offending policy. That’s despite boob-whisperer Zack Polanski advocating against Nato and championing open borders, among a litany of other deranged and politically suicidal ideas. Shockingly, Burnham has refused to clarify whether his pledge will apply to the 14 local government pacts between Labour and the Greens. Apparently, there’s only so much lunacy Burnham is unwilling to tolerate in a potential coalition partner… and the bar is extremely low.
