Is Andy Burnham brave enough to stand up to China?
From our UK edition
Since becoming prime minister just three weeks ago, Andy Burnham has focused on two key words: 'hope' and 'justice'. And yet, in a world riven by conflict, persecution and repression, he has so far had little to say on how those aspirations will translate into action in foreign policy. The fact that the first foreign leader Burnham invited to Britain since becoming prime minister is Ukraine’s wartime president Volodymyr Zelensky is a very welcome sign. It builds on the leadership the United Kingdom has offered in support of Ukraine under all four previous prime ministers who have held office since Vladimir Putin’s illegal invasion in 2022.
