The Dark Lord is back. Peter Mandelson has resurfaced, four months after being sacked as US ambassador for his links to the paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. In his first interview with the BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg, the Labour peer said he never saw girls at Epstein’s properties, and declined to apologise to the late paedophile’s victims for maintaining his friendship with the American because he was not ‘knowledgeable of what he was doing’. Somehow, Mr S does not think that will appease those demanding Mandelson lose the Labour whip…
Mandy told Kuenssberg that thought he had been ‘kept separate’ from the sexual side of the late financier’s life because he was gay, insisting that:
I was not culpable, I was not knowledgeable of what he was doing, and I regret and will regret to my dying day the fact that powerless women, women who were denied a voice, were not given the protection they were entitled to expect from the American system.
Doubtless many will see this PR push as part of an attempted rehabilitation effort. Having left government in disgrace in 1998, 2001 and 2025, perhaps third time is the charm eh?
