The sad death of the Femocrats

From our US edition

Their blazers are bright, but their futures are not. Elite women Democrats have faced a brutal reckoning over the past five years. It seemed, as Barack Obama might have put it, that the arc of history was bending in their direction. Half the electorate are female, and feminist identity politics seemed the natural destination for America’s progressive party. It hasn’t worked out that way. Former secretary of state Hillary Clinton signaled the beginning of the end for the Pantsuit Nation™. The Democratic National Committee (DNC) and the DC media bubble crowned her successor to Barack Obama’s Democratic party and a shoo-in for the presidency. The American electorate disagreed.

Good riddance to the Newseum

From our US edition

The Newseum is officially closing its doors today after 11 years of operation in the nation’s capital and you won’t find me shedding a tear. Some journalists hailed the First Amendment-focused museum as a beacon of hope during a time when the media was facing dangerous attacks in America, like being called 'fake news' or only being allowed to ask one question during a press conference. But the Newseum was hardly the tribute to press freedom that it purported to be; rather, it was a money-hemorrhaging, unfocused building of stuff with a severe identity crisis. The most dynamic and engaging exhibit at the Newseum was arguably the lineup of front pages from the country’s most storied newspapers that sat just outside the front entrance.

Actually, the husband in the Peloton commercial is a hero

From our US edition

Exercise company Peloton found itself at the center of the Twitter outrage machine this week after they dropped a new Christmas advertisement, 'The Gift that Gives Back.' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pShKu2icEYw&feature=emb_title The commercial kicks off when a husband gifts his young, attractive (and thin!) wife with a Peloton bike on Christmas morning. The wife proceeds to take videos of her workouts over the next year, finally surprising her husband with a progress video the following Christmas to thank him for the Peloton.Critics slammed the ad as sexist, declaring that a man should never give his wife exercise equipment as a gift because it implies she needs to lose weight. But don’t be fooled by the outrage mob.
