Why is American pride at an all-time low?

Lee Greenwood may be “Proud to be an American,” but the same can't be said for a growing number of his countrymen and women. Those who identify as “extremely” or “very” proud to be American has dropped from 87 percent in 2001 to 58 percent in 2025.  In 2001, Republicans, Independents and Democrats were all within six points of each other in their reported national pride. But now there's a 56-point divide between Republicans (92 percent) and Democrats (36 percent). Republicans stay patriotic regardless of the presidency, while Democrats have dropped 24 percent since Trump's inauguration this year. Beyond political affiliation, it seems the younger a generation is, the less American pride its members have.

A short ****ing history of presidential swearing

On Tuesday, President Trump dropped a bomb – not a bunker-buster but the F-bomb. Talking to the press about Israel and Iran, he said, “We have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what the fuck they’re doing.” There is a lot to say about this statement – starting with the implied moral equivalence between the two countries. But let’s focus on the F-bomb. Has a president ever before used this word in public? Used it deliberately, in a public statement? Trump seems to have recorded a first. Plenty of presidents have had salty tongues. You may know a story about Harry and Bess Truman. It is quaint now. There are several versions of this story, but, essentially, it goes like this. Mr.

What’s next for LA’s Mexican-American community?

In 1976, the Ramirez Pharmacy opened in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of East Los Angeles. Appropriately located on the corner of East Cesar Chavez Ave, the pharmacy is the crowning achievement of my grandfather, Eddie Ramirez, and is in many ways physical evidence of the American dream.  But in today’s Los Angeles, we’ve seen citizens and non-citizens waving Mexican flags while torching cars, attacking police and burning US flags in protest of the Trump administration's immigration raids in the state. Protesters have looted businesses downtown and lit fires, leading to full blocks of the LA commercial district nailing plywood to their storefronts.  “Lately, since all this ruckus started with a protest, we have seen a drop in the business.

On the ground at the President’s military parade

Washington, DC “Every other country celebrates their victories, it’s about time America did too,” Donald Trump told a whooping, albeit smaller-than-anticipated crowd on the National Mall tonight. “We’re the hottest country in the world right now,” the President boasted. Temperature-wise, that’s debatable. But he’s right that the whole world has been watching on, as the President turned his plans for a military parade from conception into reality. If you gave a 79-year-old man some say in what he did for his birthday, he’d choose one of two things: nap, or pay a laudatory tribute to the US military that everyone had to watch.

Biden’s FBI targeted ‘radical traditionalist’ Catholics

Most Catholics were well aware of Joe Biden’s, at best, tepid observation of Catholic teachings as president. But even they will be aghast after a new report from the Senate Judiciary Committee uncovered the true breadth of a crackdown by the FBI – during the Biden administration – on “radical traditionalist” Catholics. In 2023, an FBI memo called for sources to be developed within parishes that offer the Latin Mass and online Catholic communities for the purpose of “threat mitigation.” At the time, the FBI retracted the memo after an outcry and said it was an isolated incident out of one field office. Now Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley has discovered new evidence that casts serious doubt on that narrative.

To Pride or not to Pride?

How are you marking Pride Month? This weekend in the DC area, there are really only two ways to go about it. First, despite concern that the second Trump administration would scythe wholesale through gay rights, America’s capital is hosting World Pride, a two-week-long festival of rainbow-patterned frivolity.  Though there may be fewer corporate sponsors than in the Biden era, DC remains as gay as it ever was. In Northwest, 15th St is painted in rainbow colors and the gay bars are packed to the rafters. In Northeast, a two-day music festival kicks off tonight at the RFK Festival Grounds, headlined by Jennifer Lopez and a nice young man called Troye Sivan.

Is Biden’s autopen mightier than the sword?

Whom do you suppose wrote this: “Let me be clear: I made the decisions during my presidency. I made the decisions about the pardons, executive orders, legislation, and proclamations. Any suggestion that I didn’t is ridiculous and false”?  The one person I can assure you did not write it is its supposed author, former president Joseph R. Biden, who by the way is suffering from metastatic prostate cancer.  Moreover, pace Biden’s suggestions, it is clear that he did not sign many of the myriad “pardons, executive orders, legislation, and proclamations” issued over his name.

Joe Biden’s puzzling legacy

The commentariat is awash with experts on prostate cancer. What precipitated this sudden acquisition of specialized medical expertise? Why, the announcement that former president Joe Biden is suffering from stage four of the big PC which, the news reports are gasping, has metastasized to his bones. Let me pause to join Donald Trump in expressing my best wishes to the former president for “a fast and successful recovery.” Let me also recall how suddenly the world became populated with epidemiologists after the Wuhan flu led Anthony Fauci, Deborah Birx and the entire bureaucratic establishment to discover their inner totalitarian hankerings. The revelation about Biden’s health is a sort of synecdoche for a much larger universe of pain.

I was framed over January 6. Now I plan to end politically weaponized investigations

January 29, 2021 was my ninth day as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of Virginia. It was my dream job. After going through the rigorous application process, including an extensive background check, I was offered the role in November 2020 and took an oath to the Constitution of the United States on January 19, 2021. It was the proudest day of my life. I wore my grandfather’s pin commemorating his fifty years of service to the FBI on my first day and sent a picture to my parents of my swearing in. I was working from my house in Culpeper, since the office maintained a hybrid schedule post-Covid. I had a Zoom meeting set up for the afternoon with a member of the Office’s leadership. Little did I know I was about to get a knock on my door.

How Biden became Trump’s useful political milksop

It turns out that Joe Biden is one of the best things ever to happen to Donald Trump. Sure, Trump was so peeved by his loss to Biden in 2020 that he inspired an abortive insurrection against Congress, but his defeat gave him a grace period of four years to prepare for a fresh term. If the rapidity with which he is upending the federal government is anything to go by, Trump benefited immensely from his protracted exile in Mar-a-Lago, not to mention the welter of court cases, federal and state, that he endured. Now Trump is exploiting Biden once more to provide a further fillip to his political fortunes.

Will the Democrats learn anything from the Biden decline cover-up?

As Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson kicked off the promo tour for Original Sin, their explosive new book exposing the far-reaching cover-up of Joe Biden’s decline during his final years in the White House, some tragic news broke regarding the former president’s health. Biden had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has already spread to his bones.  The revelation naturally generated sympathy. But it also gave rise to an argument that often accompanies tragedy in the lives of the powerful: that tough questions about their record should be shelved out of respect.

We’re finally allowed to say Biden was senile!

So, Joe Biden spent a great deal of his term in office suffering from what might politely be called senile dementia, and those who enabled him led the Democrats to one of their most humiliating electoral defeats off the back of this subterfuge. This cannot in all honesty be called a revelation. When I first read the breathless headlines that came about from the publication of Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson’s exposé of the Biden regime, Original Sin, I was reminded of Horatio’s words in Hamlet: “There needs no ghost, my lord, come from the grave, to tell us this.” And although Biden himself may not be in the grave, the (suspiciously timed) announcement of his late-stage prostate cancer may mean that this book functions as an epitaph of sorts for him.

Why did Joe Biden stop testing for prostate cancer in 2014?

After speculating that President Biden’s medical team must have been aware of his prostate cancer at the time of his last physical examination in 2024, we are now learning from his spokesperson that he has not had a blood test for the prostate specific antigen or PSA since 2014. Let’s recall that year. It’s the summer of 2014. The West Wing is buzzing. Crises in Eastern Europe, unrest in the Middle East, and deep concern for a resurgent threat overseas. Joe Biden, then Vice President of the United States, is flying between continents, doing shuttle diplomacy, leading panels, briefing NATO.And quietly, behind the scenes, his medical chart records a final PSA test. A routine prostate-specific antigen screening. It would be his last. Why?The question isn’t rhetorical. It’s clinical.

Alina Habba’s Jersey justice

Alina Habba, President Trump’s new United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey, got her first major collar this week: Congresswoman LaMonica McIver, who Habba charged with assaulting, impeding or interfering with law enforcement after a scuffle outside an ICE facility got rowdy. One of McIver’s Republican colleagues in Congress quipped to Cockburn that there are “so many Democrats breaking the law,” yet “so few US Attorneys ready to charge them for it.” Habba’s actions were predictably opposed by all Democrats in Congress, and may already be reshaping the governor’s race in Habba’s home state of New Jersey. Where you sit on this issue determines whether you think McIver is guilty of assaulting ICE agents.

Why Biden’s cancer diagnosis has been greeted by a dose of skepticism

Through the Covid-19 pandemic any dissent from the official medical story told by the CDC, Deborah Birx and Anthony Fauci would land you in detention. Other medical experts who went against the recommendations, no matter how they were being presented, found themselves censored by the government, demonetized by social media platforms and vilified by their colleagues. This did enormous damage to the idea of “expertise.” We are still coming to grips with the effects of Joe Biden’s office’s announcement this past Sunday that the former president had just been diagnosed with stage-four prostate cancer. The revelation grabbed the attention of not only the usual political and media pundits, but of medical professionals as well.

Democrats should call for more honesty about Joe Biden’s health

The announcement of former president Joe Biden’s diagnosis for advanced prostate cancer is of course a sad event, as it would be with any president’s cancer diagnosis. For the human side, the prayers and sympathies of the nation should be with him and his family. But coming as it does after years of hiding the true nature of Biden’s health – including repeated lies told by his staff, family and those closest to him to the American people – it should lead to even more questions about the truth of his condition, and what we were not told as voters who deserve to trust our top institutions to be honest to us.

‘Highly likely’ Biden had prostate cancer diagnosis in the White House

How does metastatic prostate cancer “suddenly” appear in someone like Joe Biden? It doesn’t appear overnight, it festers. In rare but dangerous cases, prostate cancer bypasses the usual slow growth and strikes fast, especially in older men. If he wasn’t screened regularly, or had an aggressive subtype that evaded PSA detection, it could have advanced under the radar. But how can we imagine that a President was not screened properly? Prostate cancer is the easiest cancer to diagnose. The PSA blood test shows the rate of cancer cell growth. Even with the most aggressive form, it is a 5-7 year journey without treatment before it becomes metastatic. Meaning, it would be malpractice for this patient to show up and be first diagnosed with metastatic disease in May 2025.

Joe Biden’s cancer diagnosis is already being exploited

This afternoon Joe Biden’s private office announced that the former president has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. “The cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management,” according to his team. “The president and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians.” The details provided feel important. Most men who are diagnosed with prostate cancer in the United States – roughly one in eight over a lifetime – do not die from it. Yet Biden’s team specified in the release that the cancer has spread to other tissue in the body. This suggests the former president is battling a more aggressive form of cancer. So this release is not simply a health update: it is preparing the public for potentially worse updates in the future.

Has Jake Tapper addressed his messaging problem?

Who knew what about Joe Biden’s mental state and when did they know it? That question has driven a lot of Washington chatter this week, thanks to the upcoming release of Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson’s Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again. Ex-Biden aides, cabinet secretaries and 2028 potentials have been under scrutiny – but so have the book’s authors. Tapper has gone so far as to retain top crisis PR agent Risa Heller, the Breaker newsletter reports. Heller’s clients have included Elizabeth Holmes and Sam Bankman-Fried’s parents. Why does the CNN anchor find himself in such esteemed company in the week of his book launch?

Joe Biden, the Democrats’ tell-tale heart

How Biden blew it Joe Biden’s final act is to serve as the Democrats’ tell-tale heart. His public appearances are a haunting reminder of the lie told by so many in their party: that there was nothing wrong with the 46th president during his time in office. Biden is on a “don’t call it a comeback” tour ahead of the release of a book from Alex Thompson and Jake Tapper that threatens to reveal the poor physical and mental state the president was in during his time in office. So far we’ve learned that Biden’s “physical deterioration was so severe in 2023 and 2024 that advisors privately discussed the possibility he’d need to use a wheelchair if he won re-election.
