Cheating

Why do women cheaters get a pass?

From our US edition

The entertainment world has been in shock the past couple of weeks because Ariana Grande, the pop artist behind the song “break up with your girlfriend, i’m bored,” stole another woman’s husband.  And once again, the mainstream media is on a mission to convince us that we’re not allowed to blame women when they get involved in extramarital affairs.  Grande, a Grammy award-winning singer and former Nickelodeon actress, has reportedly been dating her co-star in the upcoming Wicked movie adaptation. The only problem is that both Grande and the co-star, Ethan Slater, are married.  It’s a classic on-set Hollywood drama (even though the movie is filming in England).

Shakira, Miley Cyrus and the unwelcome return of the diss track

From our US edition

Over the weekend, singing sensations Miley Cyrus and Shakira brought the "diss track" — a song whose primary purpose is to disparage someone else — back into the mainstream. Both artists chose to target their ex-husbands. Shakira’s new song, which was released last week, racked up 63 million views in the first twenty-four hours following its release. It has since been viewed more than 142 million times, making it the most watched new Latin song in YouTube’s history. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CocEMWdc7Ck Last year the Colombian singer split from former soccer player Gerard Piqué, her husband of more than a decade.

Study: it’s not Adam Levine’s fault

From our US edition

After love rat Adam Levine and wife Behati Prinsloo were pictured smiling on a beach were released, it seems that all is well after his cheating scandal erupted two weeks ago. The forty-three-year-old Maroon 5 singer denied cheating on his pregnant wife, after model Sumner Stroh claimed that they had a year-long affair in a TikTok video. Following her admission, two other women came out with messages purportedly from Levine. But could his conduct be down to science? An August study published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior journal seems to think so. The authors concluded that infidelity may be contagious. That’s right, hanging out with sleazebags could make you one too.

Cockburn’s guide to messaging women online

From our US edition

Like all men, flawed as they are, Cockburn has indulged in the odd message to an Instagram beauty after one mojito too many. But as we’ve learned from Adam Levine over the last week, it’s probably best to follow some rules when doing so. After the Maroon 5 singer was caught sending multiple messages to women who aren’t his wife, people have been quick to shame him for being a scumbag. Cockburn recognizes that extramarital flirtation is frowned upon, but he also believes there is a way to do these things. It’s all in the delivery. Step one If your wife is a Victoria's Secret model, and you are a declining rockstar covered in tattoos that make Post Malone's look like the Sistine Chapel, maybe message her instead?!

Bad sports, from the ancient Greeks to the present

Sports history, writes Wray Vamplew, is sometimes ‘sentimental, reactionary and built on the implicit assumption that the sporting past was a better place in which to play games. It wasn’t.’ His own account — the fruit ofa career’s work — is so shapeless that it often reads like the encyclopaedia that he claims he didn’t want to write. The emeritus professor of sports history at the University of Stirling hasn’t managed to assemble his own narrative. But if there is one to be extracted from Games People Played, it’s this: contrary to popular opinion, we may be living in sport’s golden age. Perhaps the best bits of the book are about ancient sports. We learn that the Greeks had no concept of amateurism or fair play.
