Cringe white women flock to the KHive

The only thing more cringe than Kamala Harris is the legion of white women who have suddenly rediscovered their obsession with the Democrats' presumptive nominee. The KHive, as Harris’s fans call themselves, was launched during Harris's failed bid for the presidency in 2020 and has since been remobilized to provide suburban moms and young gay men a platform to post coconut memes.  The first pillar of the KHive is race. Being a part of the coalition demands an acute awareness of the enormity of electing the nation’s first black female president and unburdening the white privilege that has been. Any mention of Harris's Indian heritage is, of course, only optional. “Fellow white ladies. Get over it.

Is Ron DeSantis the new Kamala Harris?

What if the problem for Ron DeSantis isn’t that he resembles the spiraling candidacies of the past, but that he’s emulating someone who had a great start, then turned a plateau into a cascade? The general experience in Republican presidential flameouts over the past decade and a half has been the very obvious crash and burn. We have Rudy Giuliani in 2008, who botched his Houston abortion speech then said he would wait until Florida and dropped from a 44 percent lead into utter ignominy. We have 2012’s Rick Perry, who surged to a 29 percent lead over Mitt Romney’s 17 percent in the summer of 2011, only to drop out in the same place he announced, South Carolina.

I’m backing RFK Jr.

In the spring of 2021, I was barred from attending the remainder of my graduate school program at NYU for refusing to take the Covid shots, as hundreds of colleges across the country implemented novel vaccine mandates for students and faculty. I had spent the entire last year of lockdown Zoom school researching coronaviruses and mRNA biotechnology. By the time these drugs were rolled out at “warp speed” without long-term clinical data demonstrating their safety or efficacy, I could find zero compelling evidence that these experimental gene therapies would stop transmission and end Covid-19, the only morally compelling reason to mandate them.

Marianne Williamson, horrible boss?

Marianne Williamson entered the 2024 race hoping to be its Bernie Sanders. But it looks like she’s the new Amy Klobuchar. The spiritual leader and author entered the Democratic primary to challenge Joe Biden earlier this month. Now Politico has spoken to "twelve people who worked for Williamson during her 2020 presidential campaign" who "paint a picture of a boss who can be verbally and emotionally abusive." Congratulations to Politico for finding a dozen people who worked for Marianne — and revealing that her last run was not so namaste... Politico reports, "Williamson would throw her phone at staffers... Her outbursts could be so loud that two former aides recounted at least four occasions when hotel staff knocked on her door to check on the situation.

Goodbye Bill de Blasio, New York-hating communist

At the stroke of midnight on January 1, Bill de Blasio — New York’s bumbling, mildly sinister but profoundly incompetent mayor — got laughed out of office as his second term came to an end. Don’t let the door hit ya, the city collectively sneered...despite voting for the man twice. The new administration couldn’t even wait until morning to flip the official @NYCMayor Twitter account. One minute after midnight, it changed all its pictures over to ones of Eric Adams, before the man had even been officially sworn in. An image of the smiling new mayor loomed over de Blasio’s final message: a photo of he and his wife walking in shadow down a long hallway with their backs turned on a city they abandoned long ago.

Why isn’t Joe Biden being tested for COVID-19?

Joe Biden has faced questions on his mental and physical acuity throughout his presidential bid. For example, he first said he is cognitively tested ‘all the time’ and then clarified to say he has not had a formal cognitive test But there is a larger issue lingering over the 77-year-old — Joe Biden has not been tested for COVID-19. Joe Biden receives Secret Service protection and intelligence briefings similar to that of the President. So why is he refusing to be tested regularly, as the President is, for a highly contagious virus that has killed 173,000 Americans? As of August 19, COVID-19 has claimed the lives of approximately 41,000 Americans aged between 74 and 85. Joe Biden is an American aged between 74 and 85.

Will it be Biden-Harris or Harris-Biden?

News of Kamala Harris’s selection as Joe Biden’s running mate was greeted by everything but the popping of champagne corks by my right-wing friends at lunch. The consensus of the policy wonks, policy makers, businessmen and journalists at my table was that Harris is good news for Donald Trump. ‘She’s unlikable’ and ‘she’s a cop’ were the instant reactions — though if Harris really were a cop, and not a former prosecutor, she might find some support among Americans horrified by the riots in Chicago, Portland and everywhere else that’s succumbed to left-wing Democratic control. I expected Harris all along, ever since Biden imposed a sex test on his list of potential running mates.

President Kamala, mistress of puppets?

So, will it be President Kamala Harris after all? You might think so. After all, whoever Joe Biden’s ventriloquist is this week just had the puppet announce that his pick for vice-president is none other than the mixed-race female senator from California. You remember Kamala Harris. She’s the one who, as California’s Attorney General, held back exculpatory evidence about a chap on death row in order to burnish her 'tough on crime' image. That was before her leadership role in savaging Brett Kavanaugh during his confirmation hearings for the Supreme Court — the single most disgusting attempted political assassination I have ever witnessed.

Biden picks Kamala Harris as running mate

In a rare win for the police, Joe Biden has selected California senator Kamala Harris to join him on the 2020 Democratic presidential ticket. Biden announced his pick with a short Twitter thread: 'I have the great honor to announce that I’ve picked @KamalaHarris — a fearless fighter for the little guy, and one of the country’s finest public servants — as my running mate. Back when Kamala was Attorney General, she worked closely with Beau. I watched as they took on the big banks, lifted up working people, and protected women and kids from abuse. I was proud then, and I'm proud now to have her as my partner in this campaign.' https://twitter.

What will Biden do?

The oddities of Joe Biden’s third presidential campaign are impossible to ignore. He is the oldest man ever nominated by a major political party, and the first nominee since 1992 to lose both Iowa and New Hampshire. He has been in seclusion inside his Delaware home since March, rarely venturing out of his basement. After winning the primary as a moderate, he has tacked left for the general, reversing the traditional sequence of presidential nominees. Nor has Biden played it safe as his lead grows over President Trump. On the contrary: he has become more ambitious. In April, in a bid for the Bernie Sanders vote, Biden proposed lowering the age of eligibility for Medicare and forgiving some student loan debt.

Virtual insanity

This week was originally slated to be the week of the Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee, when presumptive nominee Joe Biden would accept the nomination in the key battleground state of Wisconsin. Due to the pandemic, the convention has been postponed until August and subsequently moved to a smaller venue. Then, in June, DNC head Tom Perez announced that the entire convention would be transformed from a traditional physical gathering into a mostly virtual one with delegates and attendees connecting remotely in satellite locations across the country. While it's possible to hold the convention virtually, does doing so make it virtually impossible to hold a proper convention?Conventions are not just meant to be nomination galas with lots of balloons and drunk journalists.

Amy McGrath, the Forty-Million-Dollar Nominee

Lexington, KentuckyIt wasn’t supposed to be like this. Not that Amy McGrath wasn’t supposed to win Kentucky’s delayed primary for the US Senate seat held by Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. The problem was she was supposed to win in a cakewalk. Instead, she eked out a victory over State Representative Charles Booker, who made a late charge from the impoverished West Side of Louisville during a wave of racial unrest and deadly protests that have wracked Kentucky’s largest city for weeks.McGrath is a former Marine bomber pilot who lost a high profile bid to unseat Rep. Andy Barr two years ago. It wasn’t long before Chuck Schumer tapped her to run against his Republican counterpart in the Senate.

Biden’s mental frailty makes him a Teflon candidate

President Trump gets away with a lot because much of the world thinks he’s a buffoon. Former vice president Joe Biden gets away with a lot because much of the world thinks he’s demented. Welcome to American politics in 2020. Trump may or may not be a buffoon; Biden may or may not be senile — there’s been perhaps too much speculation about his mental health. What is certain is that he gives the strong impression of being a doddery old codger. Perversely, in what Gore Vidal called the United States of Amnesia, that could be the key to his success. You can’t really blame a man who has lost his mind. He can’t be that bad, after all, if he doesn’t know what he is doing.

Biden’s denial doesn’t close the door on the Tara Reade accusation

Joe Biden finally went on the record Friday denying he sexually assaulted Tara Reade. It took 39 days and multiple media appearances before he finally addressed the allegation in an official statement and during a live interview with MSNBC's Morning Joe. Biden had over a month to get his story straight, but his response still left a lot to be desired. Biden's decision to address the allegations on Morning Joe was likely strategic, as the hosts of the program have been vocal about defending Democrats accused of sexual harassment and assault. Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough reportedly helped Mark Halperin rehabilitate his image after he was accused of groping multiple women. Mika also publicly supported Tom Brokaw, Sen.

We need to talk about Democrats on TikTok

With his usual haunts closed thanks to the COVID-19 lockdown, Cockburn has been clamoring for a new source of entertainment. Luckily, his nieces, who are always on the forefront of technology, have introduced him to a new app called 'TikTok.' The app, which allows users to create and upload short videos, has been gaining steam over the past year thanks to huge popularity among the Zoomer generation. As with most things that young people like, desperate politicians quickly pretended to understand or be interested in TikTok. In 2020, various Democratic candidates started to appear in videos themselves, mostly through the Washington Post's TikTok account. Things got very awkward, very quickly.

Is Bernie Sanders the Barry Goldwater of the left?

Forgive the analogy that follows. Is Bernie Sanders the Barry Goldwater of the left? Has Sanders, to echo the words of George Will on Goldwater, lost two primary campaigns but won the future? What reminds us of Goldwater is the clarity of Sanders’s proposals and the force with which he expressed them. Medicare-for-All, canceling student debt, free college tuition; paid for by soaking the wealthy with new taxes. Sanders made all of this thinkable, because most of his ideas are popular. The Sanders moment arrived at a time of political reorientation that would have been unthinkable during the Cold War years. Polling showed that half of millennials have unfavorable views of capitalism. Seventy percent say they are likely to vote for a socialist candidate.

Bernie lost because he’d already won

So — it turns out there are no socialists in pandemic elections. Bernie Sanders has suspended his campaign, which in normal times would be major news. Amid the panic of the coronavirus crisis, however, most people won’t be that interested. The still incomplete Democratic primary already feels like ancient history, a relic of the BC (Before COVID-19) time. Nevertheless, Sanders’s decision is significant. It means that one of the most consequential American politicians of the 21st century will never be president. Sanders has arguably had as great an impact on American politics as Donald Trump. He didn’t ultimately succeed, but his revolution is unstoppable. It was harder for Bernie to win on a tide of economic anger in 2020 than it was in 2016.

Bernie Sanders suspends campaign

And then there was one. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont suspended his campaign this morning, setting up a head-to-head between Joe Biden and Donald Trump for the presidency. In a livestream on his website, Sanders said 'few would deny that over the past five years, our movement has won the ideological struggle. 'The future of this country is with our ideas.' Sanders will remain on the ballot during all remaining primaries and continue to gather delegates in order to influence the Democratic policy platform. Biden will now be uncontested at the Democratic National Convention, which has been pushed back a month to August. That's if it happens at all.

How delaying the DNC helps Biden

Joe Biden keeps getting more unconventional. It started when he delivered short speeches and one-word answers like 'yes' or 'no'. Now he and the Democrats are becoming even friskier, declaring that they want to push off their grand jamboree, the big enchilada, the Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee to August, a week before Trump holds his own shindig in Florida. Smart move on a number of fronts. For one thing, the original mid-July date simply allowed too much time to elapse between the Democratic and Republican conventions. Trump would have pummeled Biden relentlessly during those weeks. A let-down after Milwaukee would have been inevitable. Trump would have reveled in the build-up to his own convention.

Joe Biden’s picks for the first female Veep

Cockburn attended Joe Biden’s virtual press conference on Wednesday afternoon. As he struggled to keep his eyes open, he noticed a small piece of paper by Biden’s elbow — a list of names, written in a shaky hand. So Cockburn screenshotted it, then turned his desktop upside down. Here’s Joe Biden’s shortlist for America’s first female vice president:  Eleanor Roosevelt Why sandbag the Senate when you can handbag it? Mrs Roosevelt is a rising star of the Democratic left’s woke wing. She’s never seen in public without her handbag, and it’s crammed with big plans for the post-COVID-19 bounce-back.
