Why the pro-Palestine marches must stop

It is not even a week since that horrific act of violence against Jews in Golders Green, and what is the left calling for? The right to agitate for more violence against Jews. The right to beat the streets hollering for ‘intifada’. And what is ‘intifada’ other than the infliction of harm and horror on Jews by militant outfits such as Hamas?

Their wilful blindness to the toxic fallout of their rallies is maddening

Even by the iffy standards of the keffiyeh left, it’s been a tawdry spectacle. The speed with which the Golders Green debate went from being about the right of Jews to live in safety to the right of the Islamo-left to yell for intifada has been mindblowing. This is the lethal narcissism of Israelophobia, where the right of bored socialists and their Islamist chums to scream blue murder about the Jewish nation takes precedence over the right of British Jews to a little peace and quiet.

No sooner had Keir Starmer proposed a winding down of the left’s soulless trudges against the Jewish state than the keffiyeh classes were up in arms. ‘What about our rights?!’, they wailed, no doubt to the eye-rolling of Jews across these isles who can’t even attend synagogue without security guards on hand. Imagine Jewish mums and dads who pack their kids off to high-security schools every morning listening to this tinny whining of vain leftists who want the right to call the Jewish homeland ‘genocidal’ for the millionth time this year.

What really rankles them is the suggestion that their frenzied processions against the Jewish nation might be endangering Jewish people. The government’s independent reviewer of terrorism laws – Jonathan Hall – has proposed a ‘moratorium’ on ‘pro-Palestine’ marches on the basis that it is ‘impossible’ for them not to incubate anti-Semitism. Cue fury from Israel-haters, who fancy themselves as so holy that the mere suggestion they’re fomenting hate drives them nuts.

Their wilful blindness to the toxic fallout of their rallies is maddening. These are the kind of people who think JK Rowling is responsible for anti-trans violence because she says men aren’t women. Yet apparently their ceaseless demonisation of the Jewish state as the most evil state has no impact whatsoever on British Jews. In their eyes, ‘misgendering’ is a speechcrime that risks ‘erasing’ trans people, but swarming the streets to libel Zionists as baby-killing freaks causes no problems whatsoever for our Jewish compatriots, a majority of whom identify as Zionists. Who’s buying these lies?

We can see the baleful impact of their frothing rhetoric. Just two weeks ago a Jew in Slough was allegedly assaulted by a man calling him a baby-killer. The so-called asylum seeker found guilty of trying to break into the Israeli Embassy in London said he wanted to stab to death the workers inside over their ‘war on children’. The murderer of two Jews at the Heaton Park Synagogue in Manchester told the terrorised Jews inside he was exacting vengeance for their ‘killing [of] children’. The Islamists found guilty of plotting to massacre Jews in Manchester described their dreamt-of atrocity as holy punishment of those who ‘kill our children’.

I’ll say it: if you yell that the Jewish nation is a baby-killing entity, then you are endangering Jews. If you’ve helped to resuscitate that vile old trope about Jews lusting after the blood of innocents – only now you say ‘the Jewish state’ rather than ‘the Jews’ – then you have no right to be shocked when Jews are spat on by lowlifes calling them baby-killers. It is in the foul soil of the bourgeois loathing of the Jewish nation that the ancient hatred for the Jewish people has found root once more.

The most cherished right of the anti-Israel mob is to cry ‘Globalise the intifada’. Even Starmer’s humble request that they ‘reflect’ on their use of this slogan that Jews hate has infuriated them. ‘It’s just a call for an uprising against injustice’, they say. The gaslighting is off the charts. From the Second Intifada of 2000 to 2005 to the ‘Knife Intifada’ of 2016, ‘intifada’ has meant one thing only: the infliction of apocalyptic violence on Israeli Jews by armies of anti-Semites. Who other than a fascist would want such racist terror ‘globalised’?

Isn’t it striking that leftists only kick off about freedom of speech when they’re politely asked to stop agitating for intifada? If your inner John Stuart Mill only comes out when it’s anti-Semitic speech that is on the line, then it isn’t the freedom to speak you’re fighting for: it’s the ‘freedom’ to intimidate Jews.

I think we are witnessing a great moral unravelling of the left in the aftermath of Golders Green. The virtuous posturing of the professional loathers of Israel has been exposed as fraudulent. There are people in our society who, when their future kids ask them what they did after the Islamo-fascist intifada of 7 October that entailed the rape and murder of more than a thousand Jews, will have to say: ‘I campaigned for more of it.’ Ignominy awaits them.
