Nigel Farage has been strengthened

Nigel Farage has been reelected as the Member of Parliament for Clacton. He resigned last month to force a contest in his seaside constituency following a series of news stories about his financial affairs. The central claim is that before becoming an MP in 2024, Farge received £5 million from a crypto investor and failed to declare it to the parliamentary authorities once he was elected.  The people who have been most embarrassed by this bizarre by-election are the liberal left The Reform UK leader decided it was better to go to the voters than wait for some anonymous parliamentary inquiry to determine whether he had breached the rules. None of the main political parties ran a candidate against him, attempting to portray his by-election as a vanity project.

The big revelation in Lord Ashcroft’s forthcoming biography of Nigel Farage is that he’s been banned from Desert Island Discs. According to Ashcroft’s sources, an appearance by the Reform UK leader would make some BBC employees feel ‘unsafe’ and might lead to other high-profile figures boycotting the long-running show. ‘I have come to expect nothing less from the BBC,’ Farage told the Mail on Sunday. ‘Their blatant bias has been obvious for years.’ The BBC has categorically denied the story and, in fairness, its ‘blatant bias’ doesn’t extend to Question Time, which Farage has appeared on about 40 times in the past 26 years.

Like a shark, Farage keeps moving forward, into new waters, hungry for more. One ally sums up his approach to politics in a single word: “Momentum.” For the past few months, Farage has had one goal: destroying the Tories. The figure “1,453” was the total of gains proudly pumped out on Reform’s Instagram. For Farage, May 7 was the political equivalent of the fall of Constantinople – the point when the Conservatives ceased to be a national party.
