The Trump campaign just expanded its circle of senior campaign advisors to welcome five new operatives, including former Trump 2016 campaign manager Corey Lewandowski. With roughly eighty days until the election, Trump is attempting to reunite the dream team that got him into the White House back in 2016. Lewandowski will reportedly serve above Trump’s co-campaign managers Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles, amid rumors that they are the most vulnerable on Trump’s campaign.  They "are all veterans of prior Trump campaigns, and their unmatched experience will help President Trump prosecute the case against Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, the most radical ticket in American history,” LaCivita and Wiles said.

“I think it’s very important to have debates,” former president Donald Trump said at a Mar-a-Lago press conference Thursday afternoon, confirming his agreement to three debates against Kamala Harris throughout September on Fox, ABC and NBC. The Harris campaign has only confirmed the ABC debate on September 10, which will be moderated by David Muir and Linsey Davis. Until now, Trump would not commit to a date to debate Harris, saying he could consider skipping it after Biden's disastrous performance in their previous face-off. The Harris campaign accused Trump of refusing to debate out of fear. Harris “wants to say I don’t want to debate, but I do want to debate,” he added at the presser, his first public appearance since Tim Walz was selected as the Democratic VP candidate.

While Donald Trump’s outlandish behavior usually garners free publicity for him in the news, this time, there is a lot on the line. Trump’s Wednesday comments at the National Association for Black Journalists convention have been branded “audacious lie[s],” “outrageous insults,” “overtly racist,” “repulsive” and “insulting.” “She was always of Indian heritage and she was only promoting Indian heritage,” Trump said, in one of the more widely circulated quotes. “I didn’t know she was black until a number of years ago until she happened to turn black, and now she wants to be known as black.” Race is the last thing GOP political strategists want Trump to mention when it comes to Kamala’s campaign.

Now that the Democrats have toppled the president in a bloodless coup, the bases of the Republican and Democratic parties have candidates they’re excited about. But both parties remain largely in denial regarding the unpopular leaders they’ve picked. According to the RealClearPolitics average of favorability polls, Harris is just over nine points underwater with 51 percent of Americans viewing her unfavorably, and Trump is just under nine points underwater, with 53 percent of Americans viewing him unfavorably. In nominating Harris and Trump, the devoted bases of both parties have essentially extended middle fingers at each other and to a swathe of independents who view both of them unfavorably.

Former first lady Melania Trump plans on releasing her first memoir this fall, entitled Melania. The book is slated to tell “a powerful and inspiring story of a woman who has carved her own path, overcome adversity and defined personal excellence,” according to her office. The book will be published by Skyhorse Publishing and will have two versions, a “Collector’s Edition” signed by the former first lady and a “Memoir Edition.” The fifty-four-year-old has kept relatively quiet about her time in the White House and life as a whole, and opted not to speak at the RNC, marking a departure from tradition for candidates’ wives. She did appear onstage with her husband at the end of his remarks and watched other speakers from the dais on the final day.

The question going into Joe Biden’s address to the national from the Oval Office tonight was: will he, having announced that he is dropping out of the race to be president, will he also resign the presidency now? Or would he announce that he was sticking it out till 11:59 a.m. on January 20, 2025? Given the perks of the office, and the appetites of Dr. Jill Biden, I thought it likely that he would choose to stick it out. I am often wrong in my political predictions, but about this I was right. In his sad, at times maudlin, painfully mendacious eleven-minute speech, Joe Biden told the American people that he wasn’t going anywhere. Circumstances may intervene to change that. All of us are subject to the sudden intervention of fate.

The events of the last few days have made incontrovertible something that candid observers have known for some time now: that the word “democracy” in the maw of Democrats bears the same relation to really existing democracy that the Russian word “Pravda” bore to really existing truth in the Soviet era. If you look it up, you’ll see that “Pravda” means “truth.” At least, that’s what the dictionary says it means. But anyone on the ground, experiencing the full-court press of Soviet disinformation knew that the newspaper Pravda deployed the word “truth” only to undermine it. It was necessary to pay lip service to the charade.
