Joining the SoulCycle cult

"She’s in a cult,” my husband told our friends over dinner recently, eyebrows slightly arched, kind of — but not really — joking. I’m not, of course, but I’m oddly comfortable with the accusation. The day before, I’d done The Double. After dropping my daughter off at school and mumbling something about an urgent meeting to one of the mothers hoping for a chat, I caught the subway to the West Village and didn’t exhale until I stepped into the reception area, where the inoffensive grapefruit aroma of a $42 Jonathan Adler candle swaddled me like a mollified newborn. I was in.

Covid is no excuse to dress like a slob

The Covid-19 outbreak has been hard on us all. So please: as we slowly return to our in-person office jobs (assuming we do at all), don’t make it any harder than it already is by dressing like you’re still working from your makeshift at-home “office.” “The coronavirus pandemic has boosted Americans' love of comfort wear, accelerating a trend toward wearing athletic attire — also known as ‘athleisure’ wear — at all hours of the day,” reports CBS News. “Since the beginning of the pandemic, sales of formal attire have slumped as stuck-at-home workers prioritize how they feel over how they look.” The athleisure market — already a $155 billion industry — is expected to skyrocket to $257 billion over the next five years.

Actually, the husband in the Peloton commercial is a hero

Exercise company Peloton found itself at the center of the Twitter outrage machine this week after they dropped a new Christmas advertisement, 'The Gift that Gives Back.' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pShKu2icEYw&feature=emb_title The commercial kicks off when a husband gifts his young, attractive (and thin!) wife with a Peloton bike on Christmas morning. The wife proceeds to take videos of her workouts over the next year, finally surprising her husband with a progress video the following Christmas to thank him for the Peloton.Critics slammed the ad as sexist, declaring that a man should never give his wife exercise equipment as a gift because it implies she needs to lose weight. But don’t be fooled by the outrage mob.
