You wait years for a right-wing party – and then a veritable fleet comes along at once. After Advance UK, Heritage and Reclaim, now we have Restore Britain. It is being fronted by Rupert Lowe, the Great Yarmouth MP who currently sits as an independent. He initially set up Restore Britain as a ‘political movement’ after he was suspended from Reform UK last March. Cue the likes of board members Susan Hall and Gavin Williamson signalling they will be cutting ties…
Restore Britain is now expected to act as an umbrella political party, with locally based political parties – such as Lowe’s own Great Yarmouth First party – acting as partners. In a seven-minute video posted online, Lowe said:
I’m now going to dedicate my life to finding, organising, funding and providing hundreds of qualified candidates to present to the British people at the next general election. This process has already started with invitations being issued to patriots in aligned political parties: Reform, the Conservatives, the SDP, Advance and more… The men and women standing for restore in that election will not be politicians. I promise you that they will not be failed ministers. They will not be tainted by failures of the past. They will be from business, from the military, from science, from medicine, from education, from industry, representing real communities up and down the country.
There then followed a quasi-manifesto, with Lowe pledging to ‘crush parasitic Britain’, by getting ‘millions of healthy Brits back into work’ and deport ‘every single illegal migrant’. The ex-Southampton boss claims to now have 50,000 members, saying that ‘Restore Britain will not just stop mass immigration, we will reverse it’ and stop the ‘relentless creep of radical Islam’ in the UK.
So far Reform UK has had little to worry about on their right flank. Might that be about to change?
