Andy Burnham has continued his warm embrace of Labour’s worst lefties by reinstating Diane Abbott to the parliamentary party. The veteran socialist was suspended in July last year after doubling down on her deranged insistence that Jews, unlike black people, do not experience racism. She compared the ‘prejudice’ faced by Jewish people to that suffered by redheads.
On X, the Mother of the House revealed that she had been ‘issued with a formal warning’ over another post in which she referred to the IDF as the ‘Jewish Defence Force’. She professed to be ‘deeply sorry’ for any offence caused by ‘the actions of the state of Israel with the Jewish community’. Without a hint of irony, Abbott insisted: ‘I have been and remain a lifelong anti-racist and remain deeply committed to opposing racism in all its forms.’
The militant lefty’s readmission comes after thousands signed a letter demanding that Burnham welcome her back into the fold. Under No. 10’s new big-happy-family, HR-department approach to party management, the whip has duly been restored.
Mr S suspects it will not be long before Abbott tests the limits of Burnham’s cuddly new whipping operation, relying on her bulging reserves of left-wing credibility to protect her from any future indiscretions. But her return raises another obvious question: does it open the door to a comeback for one magic grandpa, Jeremy Corbyn? The Socialist Campaign Group has already wormed its way into the PPS ranks. At this rate, Labour’s new broad church may soon be holding a resurrection service…
