Has Labour’s anti-Semitism row cost the party in the local elections? Given their disappointing results in areas with a large number of Jewish voters, such as Barnet, it would seem so. So is Ken Livingstone feeling apologetic for repeatedly talking about Hitler? Not so, if his interview on Sky News just now was anything to go on. Instead of apologising for embarrassing his party, Ken doubled down on his comments, and again droned on about Adolf Hitler’s view of zionism: 'There is a lot of Jewish people not just in Barnet but all over the place who believe I said Hitler was a zionist. That was the big smear on the day that I was suspended.

As voters head to the polls today, the Conservatives are hoping their reputation for bin management will trump any concerns over the government's Brexit plans. However, Mr S suspects not all of the Tory literature used will have the desired effect. In Ilford Town, a leaflet went out to residents listing four reasons to vote for the area's Conservative candidates. Only a printing error meant that these 'reasons' consisted of dummy text – rather than any achievement: 'Three lines of text about what issues/projects/policies you've already fone or are doing or will be doing in your ward/area.' Although the Conservatives have managed a successful expectation management campaign ahead of the local elections, were the Tories to lose control of Kensington council, it would be hard to spin it as anything other than a total disaster. So, a letter from a former Conservative MP in today's Evening Standard declaring his intention to vote Labour in the borough appears to be a taste of bad things to come. Keith Raffan – the Conservative MP for the Welsh seat of Delyn from 1983–92 – says he was left with no other choice after meeting two less than ideal Tory candidates: However, before the Tories get too worried it turns out Raffan's 'defection' isn't such a scandal as the paper suggests.

Although John Bercow once said he would only serve as Commons Speaker for only nine years, the Conservative MP has since suggested that he plans to stay on longer. But will he get a say in the matter? Mr S only asks as Bercow is in the line of fire after an explosive Newsnight package on more bullying allegations against the Speaker. Bercow's former private secretary Angus Sinclair has told the current affairs show that he was subject to angry outbursts and obscene language when he worked for Bercow. Amber Rudd’s resignation is something of a coup for Diane Abbott, who has spent the last week calling for the Home Secretary to go. But Abbott's disastrous interview on Good Morning Britain might well have cut Labour’s celebrations at Rudd’s departure somewhat short. The shadow home secretary was asked repeatedly what Labour’s policy on illegal immigration is. And six times, she refused to say: Piers Morgan: ‘…I don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask the shadow home secretary, in light of this massive scandal, what Labour’s policy on illegal immigrants is. Do you think that they should be removed from the country, or should they be allowed to stay here?’ Diane Abbott: ‘We are…yes, but..

To the disappointment of Conservative MPs and the delight of Labour politicians, Amber Rudd has resigned as Home Secretary - but the best politicians can always clutch victory from the jaws of defeat. Or at least that appears to be what Anna Soubry is trying to do. The arch-Remainer has taken to social media to lament Rudd's passing – praising her 'great courage and immense ability'. Soubry goes on to add that she will give her a 'huge welcome on to our back benches': https://twitter.com/Anna_Soubry/status/990699828182216704 Rudd, of course, pretty much led the Remain campaign by the end and acquitted herself with distinction during the debates. So there's no doubt where her sympathies lie.

Ken Livingstone could soon find himself booted out of Labour for good if the party ever gets its act together to deal with his suspension. So it Ken sorry? Not a bit. The former mayor of London told LBC this morning that the anti-Semitism row was a ‘complete diversion’ and insisted it wouldn't damage the party on May 3rd. What's more, despite still being suspended, Ken is representing Labour on the doorstep – by campaigning in his local constituency. Still, at least Ken has said he does have some regrets – but Mr S was surprised to hear these didn't relate to his comments about Hitler.

Dominic Raab has found himself the subject of much mockery today after one of his aides allegedly told an undercover reporter about his rather repetitious lunch habits: ‘He has the chicken Caesar and bacon baguette, superfruit pot and the vitamin volcano smoothie, every day. He is so weird. It’s the Dom Raab Special.’ Happily, Mr S's mole reports that he has not been put off – he was spotted back in Pret this lunchtime.
