The Democrats have a voter problem

Data scientist David Shor has a message for Democrats: “Your problem with young men is worse than you think.” Shor is a respected and highly reputable Democratic data guru. He has released his autopsy on the 2024 election and why Kamala Harris lost. Unlike previous analysis, which primarily used exit polling, Shor’s company Blue Rose Research looked at polls, precinct-level returns and voter-file data to figure out who turned on the Democrats – and why. Democrats comforted themselves in the wake of their election loss by insisting that if more people had voted, Harris would have been sworn in as the 47th president. For decades it’s been true that Democrats win high-turnout elections while Republicans win votes with a smaller turnout.

What I told Ron DeSantis and his team about their campaign

Over the last few weeks, about half a dozen reporters told me they were getting ready to write the obituary on DeSantis’s campaign and wanted to include comments I made in off-the-record meetings. I had no intention of ever sharing these comments with the media, but seeing how they would come out anyway, I felt it necessary to get the story straight from my mouth.  For months, I warned Governor DeSantis and his team about their campaign strategy; everything from the super PAC to his message seemed wrong, and I made it known. So here’s what happened. On May 10, I boarded a Delta Airlines flight to Tallahassee to meet the governor, his wife and his campaign team.

Showtime lets the Lincoln Project off the hook

From our UK edition

Showtime’s latest docuseries follows the Lincoln Project, the anti-Trump Super PAC, during the end of the 2020 campaign as the organization blew up in notoriety. The series displays the shallowness within modern day American politics. What starts as a hero’s journey, with former Republican consultants disavowing the racism of the GOP, proves to be more of a Greek tragedy as one-by-one they ultimately become everything they claimed to hate. The show centers around Lincoln Project co-founders — Reed Galen, Jennifer Horn, Mike Madrid, Ron Steslow, Steve Schmidt and Rick Wilson — as well as principal members of the organization such as Keith Edwards, Sarah Lenti, Conor Rogers, Stuart Stevens and Ryan Wiggins.

Would the Steve Bannon approach give Republicans a better chance of midterm victory?

The midterm elections are about 100 days away, and polling suggests that Republicans are in real trouble. Voters have soured on the GOP despite great jobs numbers and robust economic growth. The American public has an unfavourable view of the legislative agenda coming out of Washington, which they believe only caters to the very wealthy donor class. Had Trump followed the advice of former Chief Strategist Steve Bannon, might the shellacking Republicans are facing in the upcoming election have been avoided? At the beginning of Trump’s term, there was an ideological tug of war over the direction Republicans should be championing.
