Puerto Rico

Biden’s garbage time

Here’s what was supposed to happen: Vice President Kamala Harris would speak at the Ellipse, just as Donald Trump did on January 6, 2021, before his supporters entered the US Capitol in order to prevent the certification of the last presidential election. Harris would strike a stark contrast; she would deliver a disciplined address to all Americans, a week before polls close, and show that the Democrats were still in the fight, despite the recent “vibe shift” toward Trump. Tens of thousands would attend. The visuals would be striking.Everything went to plan. Enter Joe Biden.

Puerto Rico is more conservative than AOC thinks

There's a historic bill before Congress right now that would allow Puerto Rico to vote on whether to stay a US territory, become a state, or become independent. What’s holding up such a momentous occasion? A source closely tracking the bill confirms that New York City Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been a significant source of delay. The Democrat has remained cagey about her stance on Puerto Rican statehood, choosing to instead complain about American colonialism and imperialism. “I think one thing that’s important to highlight is just the injustice of that we are in now,” she recently told El Nuevo Dia, a bilingual Puerto Rico-based newspaper. Ocasio-Cortez also skirted whether she'd previously supported statehood.

Matt Walsh, AOC and the limits of ‘own-the-libs conservatism’

On Wednesday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez issued an anguished tweet about the living conditions of her grandmother in Puerto Rico, whose home has apparently been rather worse for wear since Hurricane Maria passed through four years ago. According to AOC, it is naturally all Trump’s fault, as he didn’t send $20 billion in aid quickly enough — and so just like that, Puerto Rico is doomed to perpetual poverty and can never rebuild. In response, Matt Walsh, a Daily Wire podcast host, launched a hasty GoFundMe campaign to help AOC’s beleaguered forebear. The fund swiftly raised more than $100,000, before skidding to a halt on Saturday. Which, of course, was the plan all along.

Dear Democrats, pack the court and nuke the filibuster. I dare you

In the end, there was nothing the protesting left, the heavily slanted progressive media or the Democratic party could do. Amy Coney Barrett is now a Supreme Court justice. Cable news voices like Jake Tapper were left aghast that she dared to attend her swearing-in ceremony at the White House. That was it. Going forward, we are left with a litany of threats about court packing (legislatively expanding the amount of seats on the Supreme Court) and ending the legislative filibuster. The latter would allow Democrats to pass a radical agenda, which includes statehood for Washington DC and Puerto Rico, a Green New Deal to end fossil fuels and whatever other fanatical ideas have been floating around in progressive circles.
