Mocking murdered leftists is not based

At 1:30 a.m. on Monday, Philadelphia freelance journalist Josh Kruger was shot seven times at the base of his stairs by an intruder. He stumbled, bleeding, into the street and collapsed on the sidewalk before being transported to the hospital, where he soon died. Come 10:00 a.m., news of his death was reported by local outlets, and Philadelphia’s media ecosystem was in a full-fledged state of lamentation. Friends, professional acquaintances and public leaders poured their hearts out for Kruger. But the moving display of mourning didn’t last long.  Before Kruger’s body went cold, prominent figures on the dissident right caught wind of the murder and discovered to their delight that he was a vocal defender of Philly’s progressive District Attorney Larry Krasner.

Pedro L. Gonzalez, a very online polemical paleoconservative writer who has a knack for inspiring nicknames indicative of his jackbooted Latinx style — “Burrito Mussolini,” “Barrio Nazi” and “Taco von Ribbentrop” are just a few — found himself in a dunk tank of hot water this week upon the publication at Breitbart of a hit piece authored by Matt Boyle. Headlined “Exclusive — Rising Conservative Influencer Pedro Gonzalez Regularly Espoused Racist and Anti-Semitic Sentiments in Private Messages,” the piece was really just a stringing together of screencaps from texts purportedly sent by Gonzalez over several years, including a torrent of offensive racist and antisemitic material.

Behind the Trump-DeSantis influencer Twitter bloodbath

Forget the campaign trail: the real Trump-DeSantis fight is spilling out on Twitter. Conservative influencers who support the respective campaigns are duking it out on Elon Musk's app — and it's getting personal. The Twitter beef ostensibly started with Trump supporters growing antsy over the prospect of a "disloyal" DeSantis running against the president who swung his governor's race, then devolved into policy fights over DeSantis and Trump's handling of the Covid-19 pandemic and Trump's ability to win the general. The arguments have since spiraled into nasty scuttlebutt. One prominent example featured New York Young Republicans chairman Gavin Wax and a handful of DeSantis surrogates.
