Meet the Navajo who wants Native Americans to vote Republican

How well Republicans fared this time around with Native American voters is hazy. Brookings reports that Native Americans “remained solidly Democratic in their voting preferences in 2022, though slightly lower than we observed in 2020.” The Washington Post, meanwhile, reports that support from Democrats’ “diverse voter base… slipped across the board,” and “a majority of voters who are American Indian or Alaska Native favored Republicans this year.” Regardless, Native American voters have always been a tough demographic for Republicans to crack.

Here come the Hispanic Republicans

A coveted working-class demographic that has been loyally Democratic for generations stands poised to vote Republican in record numbers. Its voters are upwardly mobile, having risen from the deep poverty of their immigrant ancestors to a decent middle-class life. Their incomes are rising quickly and are soon expected to reach the national average. They start businesses at rates that exceed the native born. Recent government data shows them moving into the suburbs from ethnic enclaves in the cities. All of this has coincided with their political shift to the right. This demographic is family-oriented and deeply religious.

Nancy Pelosi lands a blow for childcare

Cockburn may indulge in more liquor than he should, but even he would never shove a child. So imagine how shocked he was to see Nancy Pelosi elbow aside a kid during a photo-op. Mayra Flores was recently elected to finish out a term in Texas’s 34th Congressional District, which has historically been a safely held Democratic constituency. Flores ran on a pro-life ticket and won the largely Hispanic district in South Texas. During her swearing in, Flores’s children stood next to Nancy Pelosi. At one point, Pelosi pushed Flores’s daughter with her elbow, which triggered a media outcry. Flores tweeted: “I am so proud of my strong, beautiful daughter for not allowing this to faze her. She continued to smile and pose for the picture like a Queen.
