The conservative legal movement is dead

Imagine if Sonia Sotomayor, once she got on the Supreme Court, started ruling like Clarence Thomas. I know, I know, that’s like something out of The Twilight Zone or the Babylon Bee. But try to picture it. There’d be riots on the campus of every school she’d attended, and likely in DC, too. Democrats would drawing up articles of impeachment, and speaking of packing the court. And whatever social justice thinktank vets SCOTUS appointees for the Democratic National Committee would start chopping off heads. Scapegoats would be piling up on the unemployment line like pork chops at a slaughterhouse. But that’s precisely what just happened with Neil Gorsuch (and less, surprisingly, John Roberts) in the Bostock decision.

Why banking on judges is a poor strategy

Monday’s Supreme Court decision in Bostock v. Clayton County was massively significant for two reasons. As a legal matter, the ruling determined that the prohibition on ‘sex discrimination’ in the Civil Rights Act of 1964 makes it illegal to fire an employee on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. As a political matter, the ruling flipped the entire legislative strategy of the GOP political class — which relied exclusively on judges to enact and protect all of their priorities — on its head. The majority opinion was authored by none other than Justice Neil Gorsuch, nominated by President Trump and confirmed by the Republican Senate in 2017.

Why has Nickelodeon outed SpongeBob Squarepants?

On the eve of the 10-year anniversary of the suicide of Tyler Clementi, an 18-year-old Rutgers University student who killed himself after being outed as gay by a roommate, children’s television network Nickelodeon dragged a cartoon sponge out of the closet in a tweet posted Saturday. In doing so, Nickelodeon set a dangerous precedent for LGBT youth everywhere. ‘Celebrating #Pride with the LGBTQ+ community and their allies this month and every month’, the network posted on Twitter above an image of SpongeBob Squarepants bathed in a rainbow glow. https://twitter.com/Nickelodeon/status/1271795092391682048?s=20 Fans have long speculated the beloved cartoon character might be homosexual.

Dealing with a pandemic as a nonbinary person

As the COVID-19 pandemic permeates its way across the globe like toxic right wing opinions at a Trump rally, the world’s largest media outlets hunker down to cover its progress. Every day I find my social media inundated with advice and information pertaining to the virus and its potential deadly effects on the elderly, people with pre-existing respiratory ailments, and the immunocompromised. I’ve come across plenty of articles warning anyone over a certain age who suffers from COPD to stay away from crowds of people. I’ve seen guides on what to do if you’re a cancer patient in the middle of chemotherapy.

Intolerance is such a drag

A TikTok video has been doing the rounds on Twitter the past 48 hours, and I feel I must express to you the level of disgust it has induced in me. The footage in question is of a black drag queen dancing seductively in front of a rather frightened-looking small child (around six years of age) as her (presumably) parents and other adults watch the scene unfold before them while smiling and cheering encouragement towards the drag artist.  https://twitter.com/MaryMargOlohan/status/1233398234028167168 Now I trust that you will be just as appalled by this as I was, otherwise there really is no decency left in the world.

Pete Buttigieg is a slightly less gay version of Obama

On Valentine’s Day, Mayor Pete and his hus-bear Chasten managed to once again charm absolutely no one, barring a few lonely, slightly overweight middle-aged women. The couple, who like to cram their twee, G-rated romance down America’s throat at every possible opportunity, shared a photo from their wedding day. ‘With you, my love, I’d go anywhere’, Chasten wrote. https://www.instagram.com/p/B8j0ZA1BBqE/ Disney-Pixar may have announced a forthcoming LGBT cartoon character, but we already have two of them on television: the Buttigiegs. They’re like a Mickey Mouse Club of homosexuality, eerily non-threatening, grotesquely irritating, and serving us content not intended for the consumption of mature adults.

Ganging up on Israel

This article is in The Spectator’s March 2020 US edition. Subscribe here. At the end of January, the owner of Hull Kingston Rovers — an English rugby club that plays in the multinational Super League — wrote to the Catalans Dragons, a French club in the same competition. He explained that he would sue for damages if Hull experienced any financial loss as a result of the Dragons’ decision to sign the Australian player Israel Folau: ‘For example, if a title sponsor withdraws, or external investment is not secured, or quantifiable reputational damage is caused to the brand of Super League and its members.’ According to one source, ‘nearly all’ the Super League clubs felt the same way.

You can’t cancel the truth

This article is in The Spectator’s February 2020 US edition. Subscribe here. Those who want me canceled should probably admit that their efforts have been mostly unsuccessful. I have been banned from Twitter for speaking about the impact of gender-identity legislation on women’s rights, but I haven’t been silenced. Long before I began on trans issues, I’d already fallen into disfavor among those who claim progress as their own, on account of my opposition to the sex trade. The New New Left, for those not in the know, believes the invisible hand of the market will regulate the global sex trade, mysteriously transforming one of the most dangerous and exploitative industries in the world into something ethical, despite all evidence to the contrary.

The problem with switching gender in prison

What’s a convicted sex offender and child porn collector to do when he ends up incarcerated in federal prison for 15 years? Change his name and petition to be legally documented as female, of course. Such is the story with Nathan Varner, who was locked up in 2012, then changed his name and started on female hormones in 2015.Varner has now petitioned the courts to make a woman of him on paper. After his first case was denied in 2018, Varner appealed to a higher court, and the resulting decision, like Varner’s pencil skirts, was split. The majority opinion refers to Varner with male pronouns, while the dissent uses female ones.

The new next frontier of feminism: letting men compete in Miss USA

The question of how we will finally achieve true equality has finally been answered. For centuries, feminists have been struggling to ensure women and men are treated fairly and equitably. Little did they know the final arena determining an end to their fight would be the beauty pageant. Last month, a trans-identified male from Portland, Oregon sued the Miss United States Of America Pageant for barring transgender women from competing. In truth, the pageant does not specifically exclude transwomen from participating, but rather males. According to the Miss USA website, in order to be eligible to compete, you must be a ‘natural born female’.

J.K. Rowling is a TERF!

Yesterday we witnessed a stunning and brave victory of tolerance over reality. Vile TERF, Maya Forstater lost her case at an employment tribunal for, amongst other things, referring to former SNP councillor and non-binary transgender individual, Gregor Murray as ‘he’:I mean, does they look even remotely like a ‘he’ to you??! Before quitting the party, Gregor had been suspended for ‘abusing a woman on Twitter’. They has obviously been targeted because in my opinion, calling an ignorant TERF a ‘cunt’ is a perfectly legitimate way for a non-binary politician to behave.

transphobic

Are you heterosexual? Or simply transphobic?

Trans activists are discovering that, while their mantras may go far on Twitter, when it comes to biology and sexual attraction, virtue signaling garners less positive results. A 2018 study revealed a lot about how much sway gender identity ideology has in real life. Namely, if you are heterosexual, you want to date the opposite sex, regardless of how they identify. And if you are a lesbian, insisting that ‘transwomen are women’ will not persuade a woman who is only attracted to females. While the study did find that those identifying as ‘queer’, lesbian, or gay were slightly more willing to date a ‘trans person’, a large majority were still disinclined.

The problem with Goldman Sachs’s preferred pronouns

White-shoe Wall Street firm Goldman Sachs is the latest corporate giant to impose preferred pronouns on their employees. In a blog post entitled ‘Bringing Your Authentic Self to Work’, Goldman says ‘We are committed to cultivating a work experience where all of our people can reach their full potential and thrive as their authentic selves.’ But in ensuring that some employees can express their ‘authentic selves’, Goldman is demanding that others suppress theirs. It’s one of many recent attempts at modernization under the leadership of new CEO David M. Solomon.Enforcing pronoun usage does more than dictate how one employee should refer to another; it demands that employees apply the terms of trans gender ideology to themselves.

What drives woke capitalism?

Alas, Chick-fil-A has fallen. The last outpost of conservative principles has surrendered to the massed ranks of the SJWs. I feel as if I am surveying the sack of Rome, and the gates have been opened to the Visigoths. I am being sarcastic, in case somebody screenshots this and posts it on Twitter with 'who's the real snowflake, lol' or 'cry more, bitch'. (Who am I kidding? Someone has done this already and stopped reading.) Of course, Chick-fil-A has caved. Conservatives might have justly pointed how ludicrous it was for the fast-food restaurant chain to have been forced out of Britain and picketed in the States because of its traditional Christian stance but what can you expect from big business?

Chick-fil-A ruffles a few feathers

Can this country go a week without a chicken-related controversy? Barely had we survived the Fried Chicken Sandwich War of 2019 when Chick-fil-A shook the world with the announcement it was halting charitable donations to three organizations that opposed gay marriage, including the Salvation Army and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. It made me miss the days when a chicken sandwich was just that — a crispy golden buttermilk-crusted hunk of chicken breast topped with mayonnaise and pickles, perfectly nestled between two buttered buns. Now, this Southern culinary export turned national icon comes served with a side of God or politics, although one could argue that they are really the same thing.

Trans rights, voter wrongs

This article is in The Spectator’s November 2019 US edition. Subscribe here. Donald Trump will probably be reelected in 2020 – not because he is a good president, smart, or has good policies. He will win, I believe, because the Democrats are awful. The party that is meant to be ‘for the people’ has completely lost touch with the people. Rather than address real issues, the Democrats have resorted to virtue signaling. Take, for instance, the recent LGBTQ Democratic presidential town hall hosted by CNN. Candidate after candidate stood up and repeated the words ‘transwomen of color’ as many times as they could manage, hoping that this would win over voters. Have they learned nothing from the last election?

Katie Hill is no angel

In the wake of a naked photo scandal and her admission of a sexual relationship with a campaign subordinate, Rep. Katie Hill has announced her intention to resign. Hill was often referred to as America’s 'millennial' candidate throughout her campaign. Perhaps therefore it should come as no surprise that her resignation letter was filled not with remorse, regret or even a real apology, but instead with attempts to blame only others and never herself. The Hill controversy has inspired bifurcated reactions, some — not all — of which have broken down along partisan lines. The progressive Twitterati has been eager to seize on the parts of the story emphasizing Hill’s identity as a victim.

In defense of Katie Hill

Rep. Katie Hill has had quite the week. RedState, a conservative blog, posted an accusatory article about her, accompanied by nude photos and screenshots of private messages. The photos reveal a formerly secret relationship between Hill and her campaign staffer Morgan Desjardins. And the story claims Hill, her former husband, and Desjardins were in a 'throuple' relationship. RedState also published allegations that Hill was sexually involved with a male congressional staff member — which Hill denies. Many are upset about the accusations and Hill’s GOP challenger is calling for her to step down from Congress, citing her behavior as inexcusable. This is absurd. Yes, Hill did make arguably inappropriate decisions as a sitting congresswoman.

Women are sick and tired of receiving nudes on gay dating apps

Time to put it away, boys, the colonists are blushing. Gays might be longing for the days when it was only marauding gangs of bachelorettes terrorizing homosexuals in their native habitats. But step into any gay bar today and you’re likely to find multiple disparate clans of shrieking girls haranguing the DJ and pounding fruity cocktails without even sporting Team Bride tiaras and penis straws. It’s one of the ballsier intrusions in this age of tearing down walls and dictating human sameness. And, inevitably, women have crashed the last frontier, gay sex apps, and it’s not going well for anyone. ‘Send me a dick pic and I will cut it off,’ screeched one women on her Grindr profile, a location-based gay men’s hookup app.

CNN’s LGBT Town Hall collapses into trans madness

At the top of CNN’s Alphabetapalooza Town Hall on Thursday evening, a survivor of the 2016 Pulse nightclub Islamic terrorist attack asked New Jersey senator Cory Booker what he planned to do to stop violence against LGBT people. Gay icon Booker, a man widely lauded in the Port Authority Bus Terminal men’s toilets who sometimes performs drag under the name Izzy Gaye, had a clear-cut answer. As president, he would create an office dedicated to investigating white supremacy and right-wing hate groups. Sharia law and radical Islam were off-limits.
