Whatever happened to Gisele Fetterman?

The most surprising development in Washington of late has been the political transformation of Pennsylvania senator John Fetterman. The hulking cueball has full-throatedly supported Israel since the October 7 attacks — this week to the point of telling South Africa to “sit this one out” after bringing a genocide case against the Jewish state at the International Court of Justice. He has also talked of the need for “reasonable border talks,” branded his alma mater Harvard “pinko” and said he’s “not a progressive.” It’s almost like he wants to win Pennsylvania again. “How is it possible that John Fetterman in the last few months has seemingly become more based than half of the senate GOP???” Donald Trump Jr. approvingly tweeted Thursday.

The Senate dress code is not the issue

Last October, after several questions arose about the severity of then-candidate John Fetterman’s stroke, his campaign released a health update — not a medical record, mind you. We have yet to see any medical records from John Fetterman. We had to rely on several nonsensical answers he provided during a debate that revealed the nature of his condition. In October of last year, Fetterman’s doctor — and campaign donor — assured the public that the would-be senator was “recovering well from his stroke” and “has no work restrictions and can work full duty in public office.”So why is it then that protocol for the United States Senate must be upended to accommodate the senator from Pennsylvania?

Gisele Fetterman’s humble-brag, ‘woe is me’ op-ed

Gisele Fetterman, wife of Pennsylvania’s US senator John, has written an op-ed for Elle magazine, of which Cockburn is naturally an avid reader. The essence of her piece is: “I am perfect the way I am — and how dare you criticize me. Also I’m a volunteer firefighter.” John Fetterman, readers will recall, suffered a stroke last year during the Democratic primary for Senate against Conor Lamb. He won regardless, lining up a head-to-head with Republican candidate Dr. Oz. His one performance on the debate stage raised alarms, even from the mainstream media, over claims he was perfectly fine following his serious health scare and was ready to serve.

James Corden’s bad attitude So apparently before the past few days, no one in the US knew that James Corden was a total douchebag. Cockburn has lost track of whether the comedian is currently banned or unbanned from Balthazar restaurant in NYC for being rude to staff, but it’s not the first time he’s had to grovel for forgiveness. When filming for the Christmas special of Gavin and Stacey — the British sitcom about two families written by Corden and Ruth Jones that launched him to stardom — Corden apparently acted so appallingly to the cast that Jones made him drive to her house to apologize to her and the cast for his “awful twattish behavior,” a source tells Cockburn. *** Is a Trump 2024 campaign team forming?

The Real Housewives of the Campaign Trail

As the November midterms draw closer, the spotlight isn’t just on the Democratic politicians: Their spouses are making waves too. A piece in Monday's New York Times fawned over First Lady Jill Biden, or “Dr. B”, as her students call her. The paper of record reports that according to a senior White House official, Jill “is the most requested surrogate in the administration.” That’s right. The best surrogate the White House has to offer midterm candidates is the woman who compared Latino Americans to breakfast tacos. That says as much about the numerous “rising stars” in Biden’s cabinet as it does about Jill. Her supposed popularity isn’t the only interesting tidbit in the piece.
