Real men go grocery shopping

A Jesse Watters Fox News segment flashed across my timeline recently, and I took it very personally. In the segment, Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff were at the grocery store. “What kind of husband goes grocery shopping with his wife?” Watters asked, smugly. The answer: every kind of husband. I go grocery shopping with my wife sometimes. I also go grocery shopping without my wife. Also, my wife goes grocery shopping without me. We need to buy food. Most of the time, we buy food at the grocery store. If one or both of us is out on errands, or even doing something fun, and we need groceries, we’ll stop on the way home. Some cursed days, I find myself going to two or three grocery stores. My wife has a way of springing the multi-store trap on me.

Source: Trump appointee struggles for coherence before TV hit Which top Trump pick caused concern — bordering on panic — at a major news network this week, by turning up in a daze, slurring their words so heavily employees couldn’t understand them? The appointee claimed to have slipped on the ice and was moving “like a cripple” around the studio and spilling food, a source tells Cockburn. “To me,” the tipster says, the pick “seemed addled on pain meds. Could barely stand.” Cockburn of course wishes nothing but the finest health to the incoming administration — they need to stay safe if they’re serious about taking on the Big Pharma cartel!

The weird and wonderful presidential interactions at the Carter funeral

Past, present and president-elect presidents, along with their wives — and current and former veeps — put on brave faces at the funeral of President Jimmy Carter Thursday. Not so much because they were in mourning, but because, Cockburn suspects, they had to interact with one another. The solemn event made for some interesting viewing: smooshed together in the front pews of the Washington National Cathedral were all five living presidents. President Joe Biden buffered himself from his predecessor/successor, President-elect Donald Trump, with First Lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff in between. Next came Trump and First Lady Melania. In the second row were President Bill and First Lady (is that what we call her?

Do not under any condition let Liz Cheney babysit your kids

I don’t understand why Liz Cheney thinks we would trust Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff with our children when we know there’s a non-zero possibility that the would-be first gentleman will attempt to knock up our nanny, but apparently that’s what they're going with on the campaign trail these days. For years, I’ve suggested an essential method to deciding who to support for president would be based on who you trusted to run a McDonald’s for a day or watch your children for an afternoon. Perhaps intimidated by the former president’s success at the former measure, Cheney suggested at her event with Vice President Harris this weekend that the latter measure would disqualify Donald Trump — who she endorsed in 2020 — as an unacceptable giver of childcare.

Obama pitches black men on Kamala Harris

Former president Barack Obama made his pitch on Thursday to black men on why they should vote for Vice President Kamala Harris, accusing them of having hang-ups about voting for a woman. Obama stopped off at a Harris campaign office in Pittsburgh ahead of a rally in the city and said he wanted to “speak some truths” to black men as recent polls show former Donald Trump doing comparatively well with the group.

Saturday Night Live is helping Trump

“Me and Vice President Harris are the same!” concluded Saturday Night Live veteran Dana Carvey, in character as Joe Biden, when he returned to NBC’s legendary sketch comedy show for the first episode of its fiftieth anniversary season. After Carvey, who left SNL’s regular ensemble in 1993, uttered those politically unhelpful words, former cast member Maya Rudolph, playing Kamala Harris, nervously gave him the bum rush off stage, only for him to wander back on to smell her hair — one of Biden’s stranger campaign trail moves — before the two delivered the show’s signature, “Live from New York, it’s Saturday night!” line to a cheering studio audience, millions of viewers at home and millions more who (like me) caught it later via social media streaming.

GOP falls in love with J.D. Vance

Republicans who were worried about former president Donald Trump’s selection of Ohio senator J.D. Vance as his running mate are eating crow after Vance’s dominant performance in last night’s vice-presidential debate over Minnesota governor Tim Walz. Immediately after the pick, GOP commentators and operatives feared that the narrative that Vance was “weird” and other Democrat-backed opposition research against Vance could hurt the ticket. But Vance proved himself as an effective messenger of the Trump agenda and demonstrated his ability to be a steady and, well, normal politician, a potentially important contrast to Trump’s sometimes off-putting personality for suburban and independent voters. Conservatives who pushed for Vance, including Donald Trump Jr.

Obamas skewer Trump and laud Biden on DNC night two

Chicago Night two of the Democratic National Convention began with a recurring issue for this convention — a logistics mess. The line snaking down the street to get into the convention hall stretched for blocks and blocks and blocks, with very few entrances into the building actually open. One person I spoke with waited in line for two hours to get into the United Center. Inside the hall, the night’s festivities and order of business kicked off with the delegate roll call and votes, to a soundtrack provided by DJ Cassidy with each state getting its own song selected by the delegation, often showcasing a homegrown song.

Doug Emhoff knocked up nanny during affair

Vice President Kamala Harris’s husband, Doug Emhoff, admitted this Saturday to cheating on his first wife following an explosive report that he once got their nanny pregnant. “During my first marriage, Kerstin and I went through some tough times on account of my actions. I took responsibility, and in the years since, we worked through things as a family and have come out stronger on the other side,” Emhoff said in a statement provided exclusively to CNN. The report indicates that more than a decade ago Second Gentleman Emhoff cheated on his then-wife with a blonde nanny, Najen Naylor, who taught at the Willows, a Californian private school attended by his two children.

Kamala’s ABC connection

Former president Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are at odds over where and when the pair will debate, with Trump rejecting a debate he had previously scheduled with President Joe Biden on September 10, hosted by ABC News. Instead, Trump says he will only debate Harris on September 4 in a debate hosted by Fox News: “I’ll see her on September 4th or, I won’t see her at all,” he wrote on Truth Social. Harris has accused Trump of “playing games” and is keen to stick with the ABC debate. Trump has given two reasons as to why the ABC debate is no longer on the table for him. First, he agreed to that debate with Biden, not Harris. Second, he is in active litigation against ABC News and anchor George Stephanopoulos (or, as Trump calls him, “Slopadopoulos”).

Kamala Harris’s home aesthetic is as charming as a Super 8 hotel room

Nothing says “you have a fantastic sense of style!” quite like... your choices offer “a valuable lesson in color trends.” Cockburn can’t imagine what Mrs. Cockburn’s reaction would be if he said that about her eveningwear, yet that’s the best Homes & Gardens could come up with in describing the “controversial” paint colors Kamala Harris chose for the interior of her official residence. Harris’s Number One Observatory Circle home is full of “anti-fashion” gray hues, explains the publication, with the open-place space boasting “a strikingly gray color palette — from the painted walls to the drapes, dining chairs, and large rug atop the wood floor.”   In other words, the vice president’s domicile is drab AF.

Fox you, Media Matters!

You’d think Fox Corporation would be sick of lawsuits by now — but there’s life in the old dog yet. The company has sent a letter to Media Matters for America, after the left-wing watchdog spent the week drip-feeding what they’ve brazenly titled “FOXLEAKS.” So far the “scoops” consist of... Tucker Carlson cracking a few jokes between segments.Fox lawyers write that the footage was “unlawfully obtained.” This has ruined Cockburn’s chances of winning $5, because he was sure Fox were the leakers. Cockburn’s second guess was Abby Grossberg, the former Tucker booker suing her old bosses for maintaining a toxic work environment — but a source familiar with the show says they don’t think it’s Abby.
