Liam Halligan to run Thatcher’s think tank

Credit: GB News

What will Andy Burnham do in office? It is a question many Labour MPs would like answered. With Britain facing a myriad of woes, one institute which will be on hand to offer plenty of sensible solutions is the Centre for Policy Studies (CPS). The venerable think tank, founded by Margaret Thatcher and Keith Joseph in 1974, has been churning out centre-right and free market policy papers for decades. Rarely have they ever been more needed eh…

But now the CPS, much like the Labour party, is about to embrace its own new leader. Robert Colvile, who has run the think tank since 2017, is stepping down as director but will still remain involved. In his place comes Liam Halligan, the economist, author and Sunday Telegraph columnist. The former GB News TV star told Steerpike that he was relishing the new post, noting that there was now both ‘clear blue water’ and ‘clear red water’ between the Conservatives, Reform UK and Labour. ‘The silent majority can feel that we are living beyond our means and we are heading for a cliff edge’, he told Mr S. ‘We need to turn that ship around in terms of the battles of ideas.’

Well Andy, if you fancy it, you can find some navigation tips from Liam and his team of wonks in Tufton Street…
